deepen their understanding of who under 5s are, from babies to pre-schoolers
gain insight into how young children learn
think about how that impacts on the experiences we provide in our own organisations
identify age-relevant content
plan sessions that capitalise on how young children learn best
The event will also include a Case Study from the National Civil War Centre.

This event responds to Midlands museum priorities highlighted through the MDE Skills Needs Survey 2024.
About the Trainer
Jo Graham is an experienced consultant passionate about engaging under 5s in museums, especially in family groups. She has helped all kinds of museums, galleries and discovery centres to create exhibitions, programmes and interpretative gallery activities and resources for early years audiences. Jo will share her insights into what makes this audience ‘tick’ and top tips for creating engaging experiences for families with young children.
Kids in Museums is a charity dedicated to making museums inclusive and welcoming to all families, in particular those who haven’t visited before. With an exciting range of events, partnerships and initiatives, Kids in Museums gives families visiting museums and galleries across Britain a dynamic and powerful voice.
Who should attend?
This training is aimed at museum learning practitioners who are currently working with, or would like to engage with families with children under 5.
Maximum two delegates per organisation. Priority will be given to delegates from non-NPO and non-National museums in the Midlands which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation. You’re welcome to book a place if you are not from a priority museum, including non-Accredited museums, on the understanding we may ask you to release your place if the event becomes oversubscribed.
