Midlands Trustee Network: Onboarding New Board Members

A group of three people sit at a table with laptops and notebooks in what looks like a cafe, they are laughing together.

Make the most of all the hard work you put into finding new museum Trustees by giving them a great induction.

This session is open to all Trustees from museums in the Midlands region and also Midlands museum staff who work closely with and advise their museum’s Board.

A strong Board is vital to the success of any independent museum. Recruiting great museum Trustees takes time, energy and commitment - it’s tough. Eighty five percent of respondents in a recent voluntary sector survey said it was difficult to fill vacancies on their Board. So once you’ve found a capable, interested Trustee and they’ve said yes, it’s vital to set them up for success and retain their commitment.  This workshop will shows you how to design a clear, supportive onboarding journey that helps new Trustees feel confident, informed and ready to contribute. Learn how to build a robust induction process that strengthens relationships, accelerates engagement and protects the investment you’ve already made in Trustee recruitment. Hear from experienced Trustees about how their museums give new board members the best possible start - helping their organisation to thrive.

Who should attend?

Anyone involved in supporting or running your museum’s Board. This includes all Trustees from Midlands museums, as well as museum staff who work closely with or advise the Board. Chairs, existing Trustees, CEOs and senior managers, plus any staff or volunteers who provide governance support or secretariat functions, will all find this session valuable.
