Is your museum registered to participate in this years survey?

Registration for the Annual Museum Survey (AMS) closes on Monday 20 April. Register now to be part of this important sector‑wide data collection, helping to evidence the value of museums. Registration only takes a few minutes.

Why Register? Your participation helps build national evidence of the social and economic value of museums and provides valuable benchmarking for your organisation. The AMS offers valuable insights into the economic impact and operational comparisons of museums across England.

Last year, around 700 museums took part, we are keen to make sure Midlands Museums are well represented in the findings.

Each Museum that completes the annual museum survey will receive an Economic Impact Calculation which can be used to demonstrate the museum’s contribution to the local economy, support advocacy, and strengthen funding applications.

Reminder: If your organisation has benefited from MDM’s support through training, grants, advice, and development programmes in our 2025/26 programme it is a condition of our terms and conditions that you register and complete the AMS 2026.

If your museum completed the 2025 survey you will automatically receive your link to complete the 2026 survey at the end of April.

The person who registers does not have to be the person who completes the survey.

To help you prepare the full questionnaire and supporting documents are available on the Museum Development South West website. You may find it useful to speak with relevant colleagues, review your 2025 submission, check any quarterly or end-of-year reports, or begin collating data you already have to hand.

If you have questions at any point – whether about the process, accessing your organisation’s previous submission, or resolving technical issues – please contact Museum Development South West who are co-ordinating the survey at museum.data@bristol.gov.uk. They are available to help throughout the survey period.
