Collections Assistant

Wolverhampton Art Gallery

Closing Date: Wednesday 7 August 2024

Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund Collections Assistant
Contract: 2-3 days per week between August 2024 – December 2024
Budget: £200 per day including expenses

Project Background
The Commonwealth Games Legacy Fund is supporting Wolverhampton Art Gallery to commission artists and creative practitioners to work with community organisations to co-design Wolverhampton's Cultural Strategy. The pilot phase will consult with community groups across the city to co-curate two of the permanent Collection galleries, (Georgian Gallery and Lutz Gallery), to better reflect the diversity of population, create a stronger sense of place and encourage cultural participation. The pilot phase will lead to larger projects in 2025.

Purpose of Role
The Collections Assistant will support the Community Curator in this co-curation activity, developing collaborative and community led engagement sessions inspired by our collection. This role will enable access to the collection during the consultation phase of the project, working with community groups to enable them to research the collection and identify a group of works to be included in a long-term display.

This 5 month fixed term freelance contract is an opportunity to assist with the delivery of a programme of works within the development phase of the project. For a full job description and details of how to apply please email: sanna.moore@wolverhampton.gov.uk
